Rare Earth Minerals Deal With Ukraine Finally Signed

The rare earth minerals deal with Ukraine was finally signed on April 30. The only hurdle left is the Ukrainian Parliament’s approval. The Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund establishes an economic investment between the US and Ukraine that not only serves as a message to Putin but provides access to the critical minerals needed for our national defense and economy.

Rare earth minerals are critical for technology, national defense, and energy production. China currently controls nearly 90% of the world’s rare earth minerals. The Trump administration is working hard to open US mines for such things as lithium that were blocked by the greenies in the Biden bunch, which would open up countless opportunities for economic growth. They are also working to broker deals with African nations such as Burundi, Angola, DRC, and Zambia that have critical rare earth minerals as well. And of course, Trump wants a deeper relationship with Greenland for the same reasons.

Elon Musk posted that “rare earth minerals” are actually not that rare. China and the US has the capability to refine those minerals, which most other countries lack.

“Important to note that what matters is the ability to refine rare earth elements (which are NOT actually meaningfully rare) and manufacture magnets for use in electric motors. People understandably tend to think that rare earth mineral deposits are what’s scarce, given the name. That is false. They’re everywhere. As with lithium, what China has that others lack is the heavy industry of refining the minerals.” Elon Musk

The fund created by this ‘rare earth minerals’ deal doesn’t exactly pay back the US for the $350B it gave to Ukraine. But it does give the US preferential access to their resources.
