A package bound for Austin, Texas exploded around 12:25 a.m. at a FedEx faility in Schertz, Texas on Tuesday morning. The blast injured one employee – reportedly non-life-threatening percussion injury. The package reportedly contained nails and shrapnel. The FBI stated that it is “more than possible” all of the bombings are connected. ATF and FBI are on scene, and have confirmed the incident.

The San Antonio Fire web team (not the fire department) tweeted:

The Schertz Police Department posted this statement on their Facebook page:

“Early this morning, Schertz Police responded to the Fedex facility in the 9900 block of Doerr Lane for a report of an explosion.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Further investigation revealed the explosion came from a package in the sorting area of the facility. One person was treated and released at the scene.

We are currently working closely with several local and other Governmental agencies.

We will keep everyone updated as we gather more information.”

The package was reportedly mailed from Austin to Austin. The Schertz facility is a FedEx distribution center, and had 75 people working at the time of the incident.

FedEx issued this statement to CBS:

“We can confirm that a single package exploded while in a FedEx Ground sortation facility early this morning. One team member is being treated for minor injuries. We are working closely with law enforcement in their investigation. We are not providing any additional specific information about this package at this time.”

Though there are some who believe this is the work of Islamic Terrorism, nothing has been ruled out. But it seems unlikely as their M.O. is usually a higher casualty rate, though terror  is their “middle name” and the bomber has certainly created that. A Ted Kazynski style bomber (the Unibomber) is more likely- someone with an agenda and motivated by off the wall beliefs. Or an anarchist group. The methodology of this bomber – from just package bombs on porches to trip wires and now a package bomb at a FedEx facility indicates yet another change.
