Matt Gaetz Withdraws His Name from AG Consideration

The cancel culture wins again?

As of Thursday morning, November 21, Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his name from AG consideration.

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.

I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.” Matt Gaetz statement

This specific nomination for AG consideration was the most controversial one, since Gaetz was the mover and shaker that helped oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Many Republicans didn’t like him for that move. The other issued was the claim that he was involved in a sex crime – which the Biden DOJ refused to prosecute. It became clear to the Trump team that there was “no path” for him to be confirmed in the Senate.

Gaetz was accused of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, accepting gifts, granting special favors, and attempting to obstruct an investigation. All of which he denied.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

A goodly number of sitting Congressional members have been accused of sex crimes, and their Treasury fund for paying out settlements, not just sexual harassment cases, is handy for taking care of problems. Other settlements have been made from various offices. The sad fact is, it is likely that some of those who opposed Gaetz for AG consideration probably had to pay out for the same things.

“So far, there’s been little specific data to help illuminate just how pervasive sexual harassment is on Capitol Hill, but one figure has emerged: the total that the Office of Compliance, the office that handles harassment complaints, has paid to victims.
On Thursday, the Office of Compliance released additional information indicating that it has paid victims more than $17 million since its creation in the 1990s. That includes all settlements,
not just related to sexual harassment, but also discrimination and other cases. An OOC spokeswoman said the OOC was releasing the extra data “due to the interest in the awards and settlement figures.” House of Representatives

Matt Gaetz’ removal from AG consideration forces President-elect Trump to find another nominee. Gaetz WAS qualified for the job.  Guess we’ll see what’s next as the appointments and nominees go forward.
