Biden Alienates Another Ally – Calls Japan “Xenophobic”

You might remember that former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates once stated that Joe Biden “has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” From the Afghanistan debacle to making our allies angry, he’s still at it (being wrong, that is). Now he labelled Japan as “xenophobic” because they don’t accept immigrants like he does.

“You know, one of the reasons why our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants. We look to — the reason — look, think about it. Why is China stalling so badly economically? Why is Japan having trouble? Why is Russia? Why is India? Because they’re xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants.” Joe Biden to a campaign fundraiser in DC

In point of fact, though Japan is not an immigrant-destination-resort country like the United States, a labor shortage in the pacific island nation brought in a record 3.4 million foreign residents in 2023. So perhaps they’re not quite as “xenophobic” as Biden thinks. Insulting one of our allies is not the way to make alliances stronger, in spite of the ritzy White House dinner he recently threw for Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Not to mention to the recent Papua New Guinea insult Biden used when he told another lie about his uncle whom he suggested might have been eaten by cannibals there during WWII. PNG was decidedly NOT happy, as they have been growing closer to China. Now he has insulted Japan, recently the world’s 3rd largest economy… and he did it in the same sentence as Russia and China who are clearly US adversaries.

“It’s not something diplomatic to say about one of America’s closest allies. So it just strikes me as something that was unnecessary to say in this context. It will sound like America is once again talking down to the Japanese and that’s not really an effective way of getting Japan to fix various problems with its society that even Japanese people would agree are problems.” Jeffrey Hall, Japanese studies lecturer at Kanda University of International Studies in Chiba, Japan (CNBC)

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Officials in Japan have not yet responded to the remark. They tend to be more reserved than many other nations, so they may not respond at all. Regardless, Biden has done it again.
