Berkeley Protests – “No to Marxism” VS “Sweep Out the Fascists”

When two groups of diametrically opposed people get together, violence is often the result. The Berkeley protests on Sunday pitted two groups of “No to Marxism” protesters who planned to rally. So naturally, the “Sweep Out the Fascists” came too, for a counter demonstration (especially in Berkeley). The City said neither group had applied for a permit.
Twenty arrests were made as of this writing, some for weapons offenses, some for “working with others to commit a crime,” and vandalism.

Police confiscated anything that could be used as a weapon. It appears from this incident that the police have finally learned their lesson in Berkeley. Previously they came under fire for failing to control the crowds, and actually “standing down.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“We’ve seen what the patterns are and one of the patterns is using nonviolent protests as a cover for violence and what we encourage people to do is to separate themselves from violence.” Matthai Chakko, Berkeley City Spokesman
They asked for any other videos or pictures available from the rallies. Their arrests were from both sides of the spectrum, not just one.

The counterprotesters (Sweep out the Fascists) began throwing firecrackers at police. Examples of banned items were: metal pipes, baseball bats, glass bottles, pepper spray, knives or daggers, shields and slingshots. One man, Andres Gonzalez, was arrested for 5 counts of possessing a banned weapon.

Pro-Trump people were there:

UVA prof Walter Heineke organized some of the counter-protests in Charlottesville, where he says he got maced by white supremacists. “The fascists thought this was going to be their year.
