West Baltimore: Though some news media tended to push the narrative that a Baltimore shooting on Sunday was a “church shooting,” it was not. The deadly incident took place at a cookout on Edmondson Avenue not far from the Perkins Square Baptist Church, but had no relation to the church. The shooter is still at large after killing one man, and injuring 6 others.
Two cookouts were taking place at opposite sides of the street on Edmonson Avenue in front of Buster’s Place Barber Shop. At least 40 evidence markers could be seen littering the sidewalk and street. Police stated they found two different shell casings, but that it appeared one person may have fired back at the suspect.
The suspect pulled up to the cookout in a vehicle and opened fire at the crowd. The only suspect description thus far is a black male.

“Police closed down the block surrounding the barber shop and the Perkins Square Baptist Church.
Commissioner (Michael) Harrison said there were two cookouts taking place on opposite sides of the street Sunday, and that shell casings were found in two different locations, indicating that there may have been a second gunman, or someone firing back at the first shooter, who fled on foot.
It was unclear whether the cookouts were related, Harrison said.
Harrison and (Jack) Young, in appearance with reporters, urged members of the public to help investigators with any information as to who took part or a motive.”
Baltimore, Maryland has been plagued with violence for years- most of it gang/drug related. FBI statistics in 2017 revealed a homicide rate higher than Chicago and Detroit, according to USA Today. A new police commissioner, Michael Harrison, took over recently.
