In 2022, George Glezmann flew to Afghanistan to be a “tourist.” He is a Delta airplane mechanic and wanted to see the country. He had already been to 100 nations and was looking to explore the culture. He was arrested and held by the Taliban in December after the disastrous US pullout in 2022. That’s experiencing the culture from the inside out.
Trump negotiators, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Adam Boehler came back with Glezmann after his release.
“George Glezmann is free. George was wrongfully detained in Afghanistan for two and a half years, but now he’s on his way to be reunited with his wife, Aleksandra,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted Thursday on X. “Welcome home, George!”
President Trump “has made the freedom and homecoming of Americans held abroad a high priority,” added Khalilzad on X. “It is an honor to assist in this important effort.” New York Post
The Taliban jailed Glezmann in a 9-foot-by-9-foot cell with other detainees and sometimes held him in “solitary confinement and underground for months at a time,” according to a resolution put forward by Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock from Glezmann’s home state of Georgia…
While in custody, Glezmann also suffered from “from facial tumors, hypertension, severe malnutrition and other medical conditions” and experienced a rapid decline in his physical and mental health, per the senators…

George thanked President Trump upon his arrival at the US. Was he forgotten by the Biden administration? If not forgotten, ignored may be the operative word. There are numerous other Americans in Afghanistan who were left behind. Welcome home, George Glezmann.
