Biden’s Diplomats Want to Work With the Taliban?

Biden wrecked intelligence ability, now wants to go back and fix it

According to the news media, the Biden administration is considering a plan to work with the Taliban in Afghanistan in order to gain more ability to gather intelligence on ISIS-K. The ability was deleted by the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. Trump tried to work with the Taliban and it failed miserably- they lied and did whatever they wanted. Apparently, Biden’s diplomats will have to learn the hard way.

The plan involves attempting to force the Taliban into giving women more freedoms. Which will never happen under the rigid Islamic regime, even i we gave them lots and lots…and lots of money.

“…the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and declining Western influence in Africa have weakened Washington’s capacity to gather intelligence on the various offshoots of ISIS.

“We have a very, very limited ability to see what they’re doing,” said a former military officer with experience in the region.

As a result, the administration is weighing sharing more information with the Taliban about the Khorasan branch of ISIS, often referred to as ISIS-K…

The Taliban sees ISIS-K as a threat to its rule and has launched a series of attacks on the group. But there is deep distrust between the West and the Taliban after a 20-year-long war that pitted U.S.-led forces against the Afghan militants, who seized power as American troops withdrew in August 2021.

“There’s an internal debate about whether to try to work more with the Taliban,” a former senior official said. Some members of Congress also favor the approach, though they argue the U.S. would have to demand concessions from the Taliban in return, including ensuring more rights for Afghan women.” NBC

There are considerable risks in sharing any intelligence information with the Taliban. Why? Afghanistan after the US withdrawal has become a terrorist haven. ISIS-K is just one of the myriad of terror groups present there according to media reports. The Global Peace Index refers to Afghanistan as the least peaceful country in the world for 2023. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and the Turkestan Islamic Party (formerly known as the Eastern Turkestan Islamic Movement), portions of Al-Qaeda and ISIS, The Haqqani network, etc. Whether or not the Taliban despise ISIS-K is not relevant to the problem of “sharing” intelligence. It’s a mine field.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The US government has not recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan. Doing so could force the United States to tolerate human rights abuses committed by the regime. If the US were to reopen the US embassy, it would grant legitimacy to a vicious pack of killers. The plan to work with the Taliban could pose another real disaster for the Biden administration. How much would it cost US taxpayers more than it already has?
