After posting a two-year-old list of legal gun owners in New York City and calling them “assholes,” Gawker said they became the target of death threats.
“You’re f**kin dead,” one caller reportedly said.
“Not a very elaborate death threat, but a death threat nonetheless,” Hamilton Nolan wrote. “While we cannot rule out the possibility that the caller was a deranged fan of Miss Alabama, it’s fair to assume this was related to the gun post,” he added.
“You better look both ways when you leave the building,” one Gawker employee was allegedly told. “All of you better look both ways because you’re going to get shot,” a caller reportedly said.
Nolan said that police has been contacted.
While there is no excuse for these threats, the fact remains that Gawker knew the original article was provocative when they posted it.
Publishing the list – even though no addresses were included – was an irresponsible act intended to tweak supporters of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
John Cook had to have known there would be a major backlash to the article. Not only did he name names, he called them “assholes.” Sure, the headline was edited, but his original wording was still quite visible to readers.
“Here is a list of all the a**holes who own guns in New York City,” Gawker initially tweeted.
“F**k with the bull, you get the horns,” one commenter wrote. “You guys knew this was a provocative story, so don’t play innocent when crazy f**ks come out of the woodwork. You also realize the last group to do this crap also had their personal information posted online. Remember, that can go both ways.”
Since the Newtown shootings, the entire Democrat-media complex has engaged in a systematic effort to demonize law-abiding gun owners and NRA supporters in their propaganda campaign to make Americans embrace draconian gun control laws.
Again, there is no excuse for these threats, and they need to stop. Gawker obviously hoped for a reaction, and they got it. Make no mistake, this is part of the Alinsky tactics being used by the left to take guns away from law-abiding citizens.
