California students arrested in plot to kill as many as possible
Sonora, California – When people start plotting to “get even” or destroy someone, they can end up on a plot that will cause them to get arrested. That’s what happened at Summerville High School in Tuolumne County, California when four male students were arrested for having a detailed plan to kill as many people as possible – both staff and students. The boys were arrested on charges of conspiracy.
“They were going to come on campus and shoot and kill as many people as possible at the campus…” Tuolumne County Sheriff Jim Mele
California students – “Children” ready to kill
“I think children today have a hard time trying to understand what is reality and what is fiction.” Sheriff Mele
That may be so, but the plot they concocted was very real, and the four were in the process of “securing weapons.” The Sheriff remarked that the kids were “pretty doggone close” to carrying out their plan.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Sheriff Mele went on to say, “Detectives located evidence verifying a plot to shoot staff and students at Summerville High School. The suspects’ plan was very detailed in nature and included names of would-be victims, locations and the methods in which the plan was to be carried out.”
Revenge?
The Sheriff remarked that “cyber-bullying” was a problem, so this plan may have been in retaliation for something said or done to a student at the school.
Other students had overheard three boys discussing the shooting plan and notified the school. After serving search warrants at two homes, they found no weapons, but did find written plans. They also confiscated electronic devices. The information led police to a 4th student, who was also arrested.
The plot was to kill people at a school event, though the plans did not have the information on when that was to occur. The student’s names have not been released due to the fact that they are juveniles.
What was the motive? Was it revenge? Teaching kids to understand the consequences of their actions would be helpful. Real parenting would also make a difference. But then, that would require parental engagement with the child.  The bottom line is, when someone sets out to destroy the lives of others over a personal issue…they can end up in jail.
