WA governor signs ‘sanctuary state’ legislation

Barely two months after a Kittitas County sheriff’s deputy was killed in a gunfight with a man in this country illegally, Washington Governor and wannabe-president Jay Inslee has signed legislation that restricts local law enforcement from asking people about their immigration status.

Deputy Ryan Thompson was fatally wounded in the March 19 shootout in which Mexican national Juan Manuel Flores Del Toro was also killed. It started as a road rage incident, and investigators could not determine why Del Toro led lawmen on a chase before opening fire.

Inslee, who seems to be edging farther left with every pronouncement, signed the legislation earlier this week as the Trump administration is cracking down on illegal immigration, according to the Seattle P-I.com and Associated Press. Reader reaction to that article included one remark calling the governor a “whangdoodle.”

A perennial anti-gunner, Inslee has supported legislation to ban so-called “assault weapons,” require “enhanced background checks” on law-abiding gun owners and other gun control measures, but he’s adamantly opposed to law enforcement determining whether someone is in this country legally.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

According to KING 5 News, the Seattle NBC affiliate, under the new law, Evergreen State police officers will not be allowed to ask people about their immigration status “except in limited circumstances.” Liberal state Attorney General Bob Ferguson will reportedly create rules for courthouses, hospitals and other government facilities “aimed at limiting their use as places where federal immigration agents look for people in the country illegally.”

Ferguson last year was quick to endorse anti-rights Initiative 1639, which stripped young adults of their Second Amendment rights to purchase any semi-auto rifle, which is now defined as a “semiautomatic assault rifle.”

Quoted by The Hill, Inslee declared, “Our state agencies are not immigration enforcement agencies. We will not be complicit in the Trump administration’s depraved efforts to break up hard-working immigrant and refugee families.”

During Inslee’s tenure as governor—an office for which he quit Congress in order to run—western Washington, and particularly the liberal stronghold along the I-5 corridor, has become a magnet for homeless people, drug addicts and the mentally ill. Many conservative Washingtonians blame the policies of Inslee and a string of Seattle mayors and city councils for what they see as a decay of the region.

With Inslee’s signature, the entire West Coast of the Lower 48 is now considered “sanctuary” as Oregon and California already have such regulations in place.
