Video of the Day: Did Joe Biden violate federal law by offering Beto a job in exchange for support?

Did Democrat front-runer Joe Biden violate federal law when he offered Beto O’Rourke a job in his administration overseeing gun control?  Newsbusters’ Jeffrey Lord suggests that might very well be the case.

Consider this headline from Fox News:  “O’Rourke endorses Biden at Dallas rally on eve of Super Tuesday, as ex-VP appears to offer gun-control role.”

According to the Fox report:

In a surprise moment at the end of his Dallas rally on the eve of Super Tuesday, former Vice President Joe Biden called former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke up to the stage — and vowed to put O’Rourke, who has said the government should forcibly seize assault rifles from Americans, in charge of gun-control efforts.

“Ladies and gentlemen, tomorrow, March 3, 2020, I will be casting my ballot for Joe Biden,” O’Rourke announced to applause at the rally’s conclusion.

“Beto endorses Joe, then Joe offers Beto a job in his administration as the czar of gun-control,” Lord informs us.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

However, he adds, there’s a federal statute regarding this very thing that DIDN’T make the news:

18 U.S. Code § 599. Promise of appointment by candidate

Whoever, being a candidate, directly or indirectly promises or pledges the appointment, or the use of his influence or support for the appointment of any person to any public or private position or employment, for the purpose of procuring support in his candidacy shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.  (June 25, 1948)

Lord asks — If Biden were a Republican, would this oversight have been made?

Good question.  Somehow, we doubt it.

Here’s the video.  Watch and decide for yourself:

He also noted that Chuck Schumer, who threatened two Supreme Court Justices by name, also violated federal law when he did that.  But will anything ever be done?  He’s a Democrat, so chances are, no.
