Video: Bundy bodyguard gives account of Finicum shooting in Oregon

witness1In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday, Mark McConnell, a bodyguard for Ammon Bundy, gave his account of the shooting of LaVoy Finicum.  The account differed somewhat from one given late Tuesday by a young woman who said Finicum was shot with his hands up.

According to McConnell, Finicum charged officers before he was shot.  McConnell, however, said several times he did not see the whole incident, but his account does provide extra information that gives more context to the action.

McConnell’s statement can be seen below:

A post at the Center for Western Journalism notes:

The young woman’s account differs from another given by Mark McConnell, who was driving the second vehicle carrying Ammon Bundy, the Associated Press reported. McConnell did not witness the shooting, but said that two others who were in Finicum’s vehicle told him that the man charged officers before being taken down.

As reported by Western Journalism, Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward said at a news conference Wednesday morning, “I’m disappointed a traffic stop yesterday that was supposed to bring peaceful resolution to this ended badly. It didn’t have to happen. We all make choices in life. Sometimes our choices go bad.”

It is not unusual in situations like this for varying reports to come out.  The whole truth will eventually be known.

Bundy, who is currently being held without bail, has reportedly ordered those remaining at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to “stand down and go home.”

My good friend Josh Bernstein weighed in on this Wednesday:

Here is my assessment of the Oregon Standoff. This is a fluid situation and things are changing constantly however I recorded this early this morning and I am confident I covered it well. This is my opinion, the good the bad and the ugly. I am an objective member of the media and I call em like I see em.PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS. God Bless the Militia, Patriots, 3% ers, ex military, and everyone else still at the refuge. May Lavoy Finicum rest in peace and may those who loved him heal their hearts, fight on, and carry on his legacy, AMEN.
