Former President Donald Trump is suing Facebook, Twitter and Google (which owns YouTube), seeking to restore his online profile after he was suspended from those social-media platforms following the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.
Mr. Trump was the lead plaintiff in the class-action suits against the tech companies, which claim he has been wrongly censored by the companies in violation of his First Amendment rights. The lawsuits were filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Miami.
“We’re going to hold big tech accountable,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference.
“Today in conjunction with the America first policy I’m filing–as the lead class representative–a major class-action lawsuit against the big tech giants including Facebook, Google, and Twitter as well as their CEOs, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey. Three real nice guys,” Trump said. “We are asking the U.S. District Court of the Southern District to order an immediate halt to social media companies’ illegal shameful censorship of the American people and that is exactly what they are doing.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, a representative for Alphabet’s Google, which owns YouTube, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Americans for Limited Government (ALG) applauds the former president for standing up to Big Tech tyranny. The truth is, they owe him, big time!
President Trump’s activities on Facebook and Twitter made those platforms millions upon millions of dollars as they became must-use vehicles for communications. The President invested time and money in promoting the Twitter and Facebook platforms and growing his audience. Their denial of service to President Trump is a breach of the implied contract between those who use the platforms and drive traffic to the sites and those who profit from it.
The courts must hold these platforms liable for violating the obvious agreement between content providers and the platforms that monetize them.
Time and again, tech giants have shown themselves to be despots. Silicon Valley has moved from being a model of American innovation to being arbitrary arbiters of thought. Shortly after they cancelled President Trump in January, they cancelled Parler. Their actions are dangerous and show that the concentration of power in their hands has turned them into tyrants deciding what people should see and think.
If they can cancel Trump, they can cancel you. Individuals and organizations invest a lot of time and money into growing their social media audiences. In the current cancel culture, years of work can be canceled out at any moment if the tech censors don’t like your message.
Trump’s announcement comes days after his senior adviser Jason Miller launched an alternative social media platform, GETTR. Miller has described the site as a “marketplace of ideas” where conservatives will not face censorship. ALG joined during the site’s beta launch last week. GETTR looks and feels like Twitter, with posts and trending topics, but advertised itself on the Google and Apple app stores as “a non-bias social network for people all over the world.” It is the 17th most downloaded free app according to AppAnnie.
