The Israeli Fight

Across the nation, liberal groups are rallying in support of Hamas following its October 7th attack against Israel. As these rallies fuel a rise in anti-Israeli rhetoric and antisemitism, most Democrat elected officials remain silent. Hamas supporters in all their various guises have done little but prove themselves to be useful idiots serving to bolster Hamas’ quest for the eradication of Israel. Supporters of Hamas reside within the same “basket of deplorables” as Nazis, KKK members, or any other group that believes in killing innocent people based solely on their race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. The Israeli fight is a just one.

The fabricated rationale of supporting Hamas is a call for independence for Palestinians. Yet Hamas has only one goal, and it is not Palestinian independence. It is the destruction of Israel, a fact that the useful idiots choose to ignore. The current round of anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish rhetoric is rooted in ignorance fertilized by false narratives of racism and apartheid at the hands of the Jewish state. Yet over the past 75 years, Palestinian leadership has refused every opportunity to establish an independent state, preferring instead to repeatedly attack Israel, killing thousands of civilians in the process.

In their ignorance and prejudice, Hamas supporters regurgitate the rhetoric that attempts to paint Israel as an oppressive colonialist state. The Israeli actions that are claimed to be oppressive are in fact necessitated by a quest for survival, in the face of repeated Palestinian attacks. Israeli-American actress, writer, producer and activist Noa Tishby has eloquently presents the Israeli perspective. She states,

“One of the biggest lies against Israel is that it’s a colonialist state and that is a lie that drives and is driven by modern day antisemitism. So when the biggest evil today are racism, colonialism and white supremacy, modern antisemites tell you that the Jewish state is racist, colonialist and white supremacist. Never mind that Israel isn’t a colonialist state. It’s a refugee state that was literally decolonized from Britain. Never mind that a majority of Israeli Jews are people of color that have been ethnically cleansed from other parts of the Middle East. Never mind that throughout history the only indigenous sovereign entity to exist in the land has ever, always been a Jewish state.” (The full speech can be viewed at- https://www.tiktok.com/@noatishby/video/7314054655380606251 )

It is more than a little ironic that so many of the bleeding hearts who pound the drum of diversity equity and inclusion are antisemitic; their hearts bleed only for people of color, the LBGTQ community and any other group that is identified by woke ideology as living in a torrent of oppression. Woke mantra holds that Israelis and the Jewish populations of other countries comprise primary groups among the oppressors who created that torrent and fuel its intensity.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The ignorance of that viewpoint knows no bounds. The Jewish people stand alone in having a 2,000-year history of oppression and attempts at genocide. And no other group has proven to be so resilient, which is apparently a point of grave concern to antisemites. The survival of Jews has apparently inspired fear. What other emotion can result in such intense and irrational prejudice?

That prejudice developed long before the woke agenda evolved. But it fits perfectly with an ideology that repeatedly elevates victimhood to a cause célèbre and classifies all people as either victim or victimizer. As Ralph Waldo Emerson so accurately stated, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”. Even against the backdrop of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, woke ideology classifies Muslims as victims and deems any negative comment about a Muslim as “islamophobic”. In contrast, the woke response to antisemitic comments is acceptance.

Sparked by the war resulting from the unprovoked Hamas attacks, the current anti-Israel rhetoric is as irrational as the antisemitism in other parts of the world. The opportunity to establish an independent Palestinian state dates back to 1947 when the United Nations adopted a two-state plan which would have established a Jewish state and an Arab state in the territory formerly controlled by Great Britain. Israel accepted the plan, the Arab League did not, and instead launched military action against Israel in 1948. As a result of the war, Israel took over some territories that had been designated as Arab land under the UN plan. Concurrently, Egypt and Jordan took control of the West Bank and Gaza strip.

In 1967, Egypt stopped Israeli shipping access to the Suez Canal and Strait of Tiran, and also moved military forces to the border with Israel. The latter move would enable Egypt to attack any Israel vessels that attempted to access the closed shipping lanes. With all the surrounding countries being hostile, Israel has only maritime routes for importing and exporting. Closing two vital shipping channels was a de facto attack on Israel’s survival.

Israel responded by attacking Egypt. Subsequently, Jordan and Syria launched attacks on Israel. By the end of the “Six Day War” (June 5th to June 11) Israel occupied the Golan Heights, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula.

The claims that Israel is a racist, colonialist and apartheid state that oppresses Palestinians is largely a consequence its refusal to surrender the territories it took over following the war. This, in spite of the fact that those territories were formerly controlled by Egypt and Jordan, neither of which offered Palestinians an opportunity to create their own independent state. In 2005, Israel removed all Jewish settlements from the Gaza Strip, providing Palestinians with control the territory. The almost immediate response was a rocket assault against Israel.

Gaza has been under Hamas control since 2007, when it defeated Fatah, a rival Palestinian faction. Since then, it has repeatedly attacked Israel, which has responded with military action and a tightening of territorial control. Those actions are not based in oppression, but a consequence of war. In this case, a war with no end in sight. Hamas would travel the road to peace only if it was paved with the remnants of Israel.

The October 7, 2023 attack on Israel is indisputable proof. By killing over 1,200 civilians, raping and kidnapping countless others and celebrating the desecration of dead bodies, Hamas has undeniably declared once again that it wants war.

If it is to survive, Israel has no choice other than to oblige. As I said, the Israeli fight is a just one.
