The Hill Suggests Hispanic Voters Are The Bought-And-Paid-For Property Of The Democrat Party

In a tweet issued Thursday, The Hill suggested that Hispanic voters are the bought-and-paid-for property of the Democrat Party.

“GOP sees chance to steal Hispanic voters from Democrats,” the tweet said with a link to an article about how Republican outreach to Hispanic voters has been quite successful so far.

Since words mean things, the use of the term “steal” caught the attention of quite a few users on Twitter. The word itself would suggest that the Democrat Party considers Hispanic voters to be their chattel property.

According to the post:

The GOP this week seized on a flub by Jill Biden comparing the Hispanic community to breakfast tacos, which the first lady has since apologized for, to help fuel Republicans’ argument that Democrats are not in touch with Hispanic voters.

Alvarez called the comment “disrespectful” and argued that it is “a window into how Democrats view Hispanics.” The Republican National Committee (RNC) started selling shirts that read “Not your breakfast taco.”

The article also noted:

Historically, most heavily Hispanic districts have had a deep Democratic lean, with the exception of districts with proportionately high Cuban American populations, which tend to lean Republican.

But recent polling is buoying Republicans who see a chance to make real inroads with Hispanics amid national frustration over high gas prices and inflation.

Nevertheless, the extremely poor choice in the tweet caught the attention of a number of people:

Are you saying Democrats “owns” Hispanic voters? Sure sounds like it, because you can’t “steal” something from someone if they don’t own it. This is a much worse comment than racist Jill Biden’s Hispanics are tacos comment.
