Close to three-fourths of the humanitarian aid transported from a new $320 million floating pier built by the U.S. military off the Gaza coast was stolen on Saturday en route to a U.N. warehouse, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Eleven trucks “were cleaned out by Palestinians” on the journey to the World Food Programme warehouse in Deir El Balah in the central Strip, with only five truckloads making it to the destination. #Israel JNS.org
As it was being built, the Gaza pier came under fire, some media said from Hamas, some media claimed the IDF. But in the days and hours after it finally opened, the aid did not arrive to Gazans as hoped. Politico reported that “hungry Palestinians” attacked the trucks with aid, but that eventually the trucks began to go on different routes to deliver it.
U.S. officials breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday as trucks began to leave the assembly area on their way to the warehouses throughout Gaza for further distribution.
The U.S., Israel and the United Nations, which is in charge of distribution, are now planning new truck routes to get aid to the people of Gaza, Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters Tuesday. Politico
The Gaza pier – also known as the Trident pier – was a stunt by the Biden administration to pander to the pro-Palestinian crowd. The cost was $320+ Million. Hamas has stolen aid, Palestinians have looted aid trucks – in the midst of war delivery of humanitarian aid is difficult. That’s an understatement.

Biden would have been far better placed to pressure Israel to enable ground-based aid access into Gaza rather than invent this pier gimmick. But as with his stance on Israeli military operations in Rafah, where the president cut U.S. support for Israel and demanded an obviously Hamas-favorable unilateral ceasefire (rather than push for Israeli tactical changes), Biden’s pier proposal put political theatrics before reality.” Tom Rogan at The Washington Examiner.
