Ukraine had 13 Ukrainian Border Guards stationed on a tiny piece of land out in the Black Sea known as Snake Island. When Russian warships arrived and demanded the soldiers surrender the island, one of them told them exactly what he thought: “Russian warships, go F*** yourself.” (The translation could be slightly off from that, but this is the phrase most media used). The Russians opened fire and all 13 soldiers were killed. One 23-year-old soldier livestreamed the attack.
UPDATE: All the Ukrainian soldiers have been found alive and in the custody of the Russian navy.
Russians: This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you’ll be bombed.
Ukrainians: Russian warship, go fuck yourself.

Snake Island, or Zmiinyi Island to Ukrainians, serves as a connector to several Ukrainian cities along the shipping lines. It is less than .1 square mile in size about 30 miles off the coast of Odessa in the Black Sea. The USSR gave the island to Ukraine at the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. They just took it back by force.
Over the decades of war, the United States has created brave military members who fought to the death in the midst of battle. They have jumped on hand grenades, attacked the enemy with machine guns and even bare hands knowing full well that their lives were ended. They have used similar phrases to tell the enemy to go “f*** themselves, usually as they deployed their own weapons. The 13 Ukrainian border guards also served their country with full knowledge that they would be fired upon and die. They did not surrender in the face of an enemy that was far superior in size and strength.
President Zelensky stated that all of the soldiers who held their ground on Snake Island would receive the honor of “Heroes of Ukraine.”
