Republicans are calling out Democrats for pushing a National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2025 that contains a provision that would require women to register for the military draft.
The language in the NDAA would amend “the Military Selective Service Act to require the registration of women for Selective Service.” The committee “voted 22-3 to advance the NDAA for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 to the Senate floor.”
Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy blasted the Democrats over the provision.

Women are not currently required to register, but males are required to register when they are 18, according to sss.gov.
The House passed the NDAA — which includes the registration measure — last Friday.
Still, even as Roy blasted the selective service provision, he voted in favor of the bill on Friday.
Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah also blasted the measure.
