Rep Jim Walsh, Washington State Rep: Legislators Locked Out of Their Offices

Washington State Legislator Jim Walsh (R-District 19) posted a concerning video on Tuesday, showing legislators locked out of their offices because they hadn’t shown their Covid Vaccine papers. Walsh represents State District 19, which includes Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Pacific, and Wahkiakum counties. He has been in the State legislature since 2016.

On Monday, October 18, Rep Walsh released this statement, which reads in part:

The current governor’s mandate requiring workers to provide COVID-19 vaccine papers in order to keep their jobs is unconstitutional, immoral, and profoundly un-American. His divisive rhetoric, including calling some Washingtonians “bioreactor facilities,” has been shameful and not fitting for an elected public servant. It’s fear-mongering of the lowest sort.

A free people should be able to decide for themselves what chemicals they put into their bodies, without fear of losing their careers and livelihoods. The nurses, ferry workers, bus drivers, state patrol troopers, and thousands of others who are standing on principle today are defending constitutional rights for all of us.

God Bless them.

On Tuesday, his key card didn’t operate the door to his office as it usually does. And it was not a glitch. Other legislators were also locked out based on a “rule” that was not voted on by the House membership.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

State Legislators are ELECTED officials. Locking them out of their office building is likely unconstitutional on a good day. Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s overreach may have just started a major backlash.

In his live video, Rep Walsh told of the Executive House Rules Committee creating an “interim rule” that banned access to the office building and Capitol chambers for anyone who doesn’t show proof of vaccination. He didn’t submit his “papers.” He was barred from conducting his normal business, being unable to work in the office where he has spent the last 5 years.

We are absolutely falling into some sort of Stockholm Syndrome that’s taken hold of the legislature here in Olympia. Rather than being that active check against the Governor’s abuses, we’re following the Governor’s lead. That’s not what we’re supposed to be doing. We’re supposed to be standing up to that and representing you.”

Others are standing up – willing to be fired for noncompliance, almost 1,900 workers said no to the jab. Seattle PD and Fire Department turned in their boots and went out to feed the homeless. They have families that need to be clothed, fed, and housed as well. They took a stand. We expect backlash from this edict by Jay Inslee. We just don’t know what form it will take.
