Ravaged ratings for CNN with Biden in office; Not enough ‘viewer outrage’?

CNN has reportedly taken to attacking Tucker Carlson, the ratings-grabbing evening host at rival Fox News, in an effort to rebuild its ratings, which have tanked since Joe Biden moved into the White House.

According to RT.com, “Critics are blasting CNN over a segment deeming Fox News host Tucker Carlson “the new Donald Trump,” claiming the dig is a desperate attempt to win back viewers.”

The story quoted a tweet from reporter Drew Holden, who observed, Read: without Trump, we can’t gin up enough outrage to attract viewers, so we are going to attempt to make Tucker into Trump.”

Fox News is reporting that “CNN has been hemorrhaging viewers since former President Trump left office, losing roughly half of its audience in key measurables since January following a brief post-Election Day spike.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

According to the Fox story, “CNN averaged 2.5 million primetime viewers from Nov. 4, the day following the presidential election, through Inauguration Day on Jan. 20. But viewers fled the liberal network once President Biden took office, and CNN has averaged only 1.6 million primetime viewers from Jan. 21 through March 15.”

While CNN evening hosts habitually demonized everything the former president did, it turns out having Trump rants was actually beneficial to the network. But since Biden took office, Fox reported, prime time viewership dropped 36 percent since the Jan. 20 inauguration.

“CNN averaged 1.7 million viewers from Nov. 4 through Jan. 20, but it dropped to 1.1 million since Biden took office for a 34% fall,” Fox reported.

The reports alluded to a remark by Ted Koppel mocking CNN when he once observed CNN’s ratings would “be in the toilet” without Trump in office. It appears that observation was correct.

CNN’s Brian Stelter has claimed Fox’s Carlson is “tapping into white male rage and resentment” and “stoking distrust of Big Tech and the media.”

Apparently CNN heeds a bogeyman to attract viewers.

But could there be something else going on? The Hill is reporting about how Washington Post media critic Eric Wemple “called out CNN on Sunday for suspending its conflict-of-interest policy when it allowed anchor Chris Cuomo to interview his brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on the network.”

With Gov. Cuomo now in boiling hot water over allegations of inappropriate behavior toward women, perhaps the viewing public has been turned off. This was on top of the fury generated over reports the governor may have sent thousands of people to COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes last year, and underreported the numbers. Cuomo is being hounded to resign.

The Cuomo brothers did shows together on CNN, where Chris is employed.
