Poll: In rematch, Trump tramples Biden or Harris; Yang launches new party

A new Rasmussen poll says in a rematch, donald Trump would trounce Joe Biden, if election were held now.(Screen snip, YouTube C-SPAN)

In a rematch election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, or even a race between Trump and Kamala Harris, the former president would trounce either one, according to the results of a new Rasmussen survey taken Sept. 21-22.

Rasmussen reported Thursday, “Biden would get just 41% against Trump’s 51% in a rematch, while Trump would do even better against Harris, getting 52% against the vice president’s 39%.”

The veteran polling group also reported that 48 percent of likely voters “think it would be a good idea for Trump to run for president again in 2024, while 44% say it would be a bad idea.”

Only eight months into his term, Biden is in trouble. His handling of the border crisis is a disaster, say conservative critics. Fox News commentators Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham will not allow their viewers to forget about the Afghanistan debacle, either. Gasoline prices continue to punish the working middle class, not only at the pump but in the rising costs of food and other goods transported by truck to retail outlets.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

In its Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Rasmussen reports that 45 percent of likely voters approve of Biden’s job performance, but 54 percent disapprove. Out of those groups, only 25 percent strongly approve, but 46 percent strongly disapprove. This gives the beleaguered president a -21 rating on Rasmussen’s approval index.

According to Rasmussen, “While Trump would get 84% support from Republican voters in a hypothetical rematch with Biden, only 75% of Democratic voters say they’d vote to elect Biden again. This problem would be even worse for Democrats in a Trump-Harris 2024 matchup, with just 71% of Democratic voters saying they’d pick Harris over Trump.” In such scenarios, the outcome would depend upon actual voter turnout, so Republicans would have to outnumber Democrats at the polls.

But it gets worse for Biden as 51 percent of Independents would vote for Trump, while 14 percent would prefer a different candidate.

And that’s where Andrew Yang, the unsuccessful presidential candidate and more recently the unsuccessful contender for the job of New York mayor, comes in.

According to Business Insider, Yang is organizing a third party, named in a new book as “The Forward Party.” Yang’s new book title is “Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy.”

Yang is the entrepreneur and businessman turned politician who first rose to prominence during the 2020 presidential campaign.

Business Insider is reporting on the new party and the book, quoting one line:

“The dysfunction is going to kill us. Worse, there’s no reason to think that it will change. The two sides will be trapped in a war that both sides win—they will still be hovering in one of the most affluent areas in the country trading power—but the people will lose.”
