Moore County, NC Power Station Attack: 45K Left Without Power

State of Emergency Declared

A Moore County, NC power station attack left around 45K without electricity over the weekend. Moore County in North Carolina experienced intentional vandalism with a barrage of gunfire that seriously damaged equipment at the power stations. Officials declared a state of emergency after revealing that much of the equipment has to be replaced rather than rerouted. The declaration imposed a curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in order to protect residents and businesses.  Around 10,000 people have had their power restored, with approximately 33,000 others who may be out until Thursday.

“They knew exactly what they were doing.” Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields

The question is: was this a test by terrorists? Or just someone with a grudge against Duke Energy? Thus far, officials do not have a motive or suspects in the attack, but definitely believe it was intentional.

“Unlike perhaps a storm where you can go in and reroute power somewhere else, that was not an option in this case, so repair has to be complete; in many cases, some of that equipment will have to be replaced,” Duke Energy spokesman Jeff Brooks told the Fayetteville Observer. “Recognizing that we are looking at a pretty sophisticated repair with some pretty large equipment and so we do want citizens of the town to be prepared that this will be a multi-day restoration for most customers extending potentially as long as Thursday.”…

“Repairing and replacing this equipment is a methodical process that takes several days,” said Jason Hollifield, a Duke official. “Once repairs are made, we must test the equipment before beginning the final restoration process. We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding our customers have shown.” The Epoch Times

Residents, some small business owners with generators, joined together to provide meals for those who were out of power in three locations throughout the county.  Warming centers were set up as well. Schools throughout Moore County were closed on Tuesday for the second day.

The FBI has joined the investigation, as Duke Energy strives to restore power to the residents.  One rumor from a woman who claimed the outage was connected to a local drag show was found to be without credibility.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Was someone testing the official response to this blackout? Or was it someone(s) who simply wanted to inflict harm on the residents of Moore County? Questions, questions.
