Media leftists weep, gnash teeth, fume over Mueller report preview

“The cable news folks, other than Fox, have been pretty glum this evening (Friday)” wrote LU’s J.E. Dyer in a post that spells out what that day’s announcement that Robert Mueller has forwarded his report to Attorney General William Barr portends. Pretty glum is accurate but doesn’t quite convey the full range of raw emotions the liberal media displayed.

After two years of at-times intense salivating by the Left over visions of Donald Trump being frog-walked out of the White House in handcuffs, Mueller’s advice that no more more indictments will be forthcoming was a particularly bitter pill for MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, who barked:

How can the president be pointed to as leading collusion with Russia, aiding a Russian conspiracy to interfere with our elections if none of his henchman, none of his children, none of his associates have been indicted?… If none of them were indicted, how can he be blamed?

Matthews wasn’t alone in his outrage. NBC News reporter Ken Dilanian was on hand to console him and viewers by suggesting Mueller could still end up accusing the president of “impeachable offenses.”

Fellow network host Rachel Maddow exhibited another of the five stages of grief, sadness. Cutting short a fishing trip so she could be the one to share the dreadful news with her viewers, Maddow fought back tears:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Over at CNN, the news was so overwhelming that chief political analyst Gloria Borger could scarcely keep pace with her own thoughts and ended up sputtering this stream-of-conscious jumble:

Ever since James Comey almost two years to the day testified before Congress that the FBI had opened an investigation into potential Russian collusion. So if … they get great news, the great news is, first of all, there’s no more indictments, but if suddenly the President has to say those angry Democrats who were working with Bob Mueller were actually just part of a Justice Department doing its job after he has criticized the Justice Department … and then he is now vindicated … how do you manage that politically?

Veteran Wolf Blitzer, meantime, sounded a note of resignation when he asked correspondent Laura Jarrett, “It’s your reporting the Special Counsel is not recommending any further indictments. As far as you know, have there been sealed indictments that potentially down the road for whatever reason could be unsealed?”

Here is Jarrett’s grim reply:

I asked that very same question. I pressed them at length. Sealed, unsealed, in any form, you are telling me that it’s not coming down the pike in any way in the coming weeks and months? I was told unequivocally no. It’s done.”

There is no joy in Mudville.

And now, with news that AG Barr’s summary of the Mueller report shows no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, we can only expect the weeping and wailing to reach a fever pitch.
