On Tuesday, “Variety” released its inauguration edition featuring liberal celebrities Michael Moore, Lena Dunham, CNN’s Van Jones, Chelsea Handler and Hamilton’s Brandon Victor Dixon with the U.S. flag in an apparent effort to make them look somewhat patriotic. There’s just one problem. The cover shows the celebrities clearly violating U.S. flag code by dragging the flag on the floor.
The cover can be seen here.
Writing at the Daily Wire, John Nolte said:
There is no gray area on this matter.
Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Code (“Respect for flag”) states clearly in paragraph (b) that: The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
No, it is not against the law to allow the flag to drag on the ground. There is no civil or legal penalty. Also, contrary to the myth, you do not have to burn the flag if it touches the ground.
“Nevertheless,” Nolte said, “being careful to keep the flag from touching the ground is something we were all (well, most of us) taught as children. Out here in the Flyover Hinterlands, it is common knowledge that, out of respect for our country and those who sacrificed for it, you do not allow Old Glory to hit the ground. Ever.
“Moreover, when handling the flag, again out of respect, this is something you are supposed to be highly conscious of — and anyone who esteems the flag, certainly is.”
Trey Sanchez added:
To them, the flag was just another prop. No big deal. They were clearly not thinking about the men and women who have given life and limb for that flag to protect their freedoms to stand there and be disrespectful.
It’s surprising enough that they would stand near an American flag, much less hold one. Like outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama, these folks haven’t been proud of their country for some time. To them their progressive values are what make them patriotic: denying American exceptionalism is patriotic, gun control is patriotic, socialism is truly American.
And let’s not forget that Moore has been quite vocal about his support of the left’s attempted coup d’etat against Trump and was quite clear when he called for Trump’s inauguration to be disrupted and declared the Electoral College racist.
“NOW WHAT?” screams the headline on the cover.
Try this, Variety — suck it up the way we did for eight years under Obama.
Ben Shapiro was 100 percent correct when he wrote, “please keep doing this, Hollywood celebrities. It will ensure your continued defeat.”
As a final note, we intend to have a live feed running during Trump’s inauguration. Contributor Bobbie Gerry is working to get that set up and plans to bring us live video and reports from Washington, D.C., so stay tuned here for that.
