Lakewood Church Shooting: Was the Suspect Transgender?

Two off-duty officers took suspect down

Lakewood, Texas: A Hispanic individual from El Salvador with a rifle, backpack and a 5-year-old child walked into Joel Osteen’s Lakewood church on Sunday and opened fire. Fortunately, two off-duty police officers were present and shot her immediately.  The Lakewood Church shooting is another reason why concealed carry is extremely important, even if attending a church service. In this time of anti-Christian or anti-Jewish sentiments, arming yourself may save lives. In this case, the church was conducting a Spanish service when the shooting occurred.

The 5-year-old remains in critical condition at a local hospital – some reports state that the child is not expected to survive. A 57-year-old male was shot in the leg and is in stable condition according to the Houston Chronicle.

Police stated that a massacre was averted by the two off-duty officers. She claimed to have a bomb, but no explosives were found.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Once she went down, officers reported back to us that she threatened that she had a bomb,” the police chief explained. “So we searched her vehicle, our bomb squad, and also the backpack [she brought] …No explosives were found, but she was also spraying some type of substance on the ground.” Fox

Subsequent to her demise, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Conroe, Texas. It is being reported that the shooter’s rifle had the words “Free Palestine” on it.

The officers were at the home in the 9700 block of Gulfstream Drive executing a search warrant for evidence connected to aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon and hoax bomb, said Donna Hansen, chief of the felony division at the district attorney’s office. The home is in the Sterling Place subdivision off Airport Road.

Officials with the FBI, Houston and Conroe police departments and the Texas Rangers responded to the home to execute the search warrant.

“It was a multi-agency collaboration to make sure everybody here in Conroe was safe,” Hansen said.

Representatives from the FBI did not immediately say confirm the name of the suspect for the search warrant. Houston Chronicle

The suspect was identified by CBS as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36. Records indicate that the subject may have been transgender:

Numerous churches and some synagogues nationwide have been training their security personnel for just such incidents as this one. In today’s uncertain world, it is imperative that trained personnel be made aware of the dangers posed by unknown persons entering any facility, not just churches. The two off-duty officers were from different agencies but engaged the shooter immediately.  They truly are heroes.
