Jamar Banks, Subway Stabber Arrested 87 Times. Will he be released again?

Jamar Banks, 52, was arrested for the 88th time after allegedly stabbing two people at two different New York subway stations. The New York Post reported that his rap sheet included charges of “attempted murder, weapons possession, assault, criminal trespassing, turnstile jumping and petty larceny.” 87 Previous arrests. A lovely legacy for the New York no-bail system.

Jamar Banks was in possession of a large knife at his arrest. He is accused of stabbing a 47-year-old transit worker in the back and armpit on January 2 at the number 6 train, and a 31-year-old man on the number 2 train on January 1. After Banks fled the scene, the victims were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

Jamar Banks isn’t the only perpetrator of crime on the NY Subway:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

In an unrelated incident, police said a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the arm early Sunday morning at the East 138th Street subway station in Mott Haven.
That victim was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.
In another separate incident this week in Brooklyn, police said a 71-year-old woman was assaulted at the Hoyt Street subway station by four women who attempted to steal her bag.
News 12 spoke with riders on Sunday, and they had mixed reactions about safety on the subway.
“It’s unpredictable,” said Jessica Angeles, of East Williamsburg. “I don’t think [the subway is] that safe, but I don’t really have another choice of transportation in New York. It’s the most efficient way to get around.”
“Be always on point,” said Terrance, of Hunts Point. “Makes you feel a little safer, more aware of what’s going on in your surroundings.”
As far as Sunday’s stabbing in Mott Haven and the separate attempted robbery in Brooklyn, police said no arrests have been made. New York News 12

While you couldn’t pay me enough to ride a subway train, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers need them to get around the crowded city in a way that is relatively inexpensive. But with all the crime, many are scared.

Governor Kathy Hochul has instituted a “congestion” fee to cut down on the number of vehicles that flood the streets of New York on a daily basis. Asking New Yorkers to forgo their cars is a fool’s errand.  Does she want them to ride the subway? If so, she needs to have a plan in place to fix the crime problem. That is not likely to happen under current leadership. Jamar Banks is simply the latest result of a broken system.
