Heroes Tackled One of the Armed Attackers at Chief’s Super Bowl Parade

Tackling an armed suspect is no small feat. For police, it often requires shooting them. For a member of the public that is unarmed, it requires raw courage. Two heroes, one unknown, and one named Paul Contreras from Omaha, tackled one of the armed attackers who allegedly killed one and wounded 22 others at the Kansas City Chief’s Super Bowl Parade on Wednesday.

Eight of the injuries are considered life-threatening, seven “serious”, and six minor. Several of those injured were children. It is unclear at this time whether this was a gang-type incident or something else. Three people were detained by police. The investigation is ongoing.

Guts

Paul Contreras told WLWT news that he “didn’t think about it, he just did it.” Mr. Contreras and one other Chief’s fan acted swiftly to take down the man brandishing a gun. His daughter Alyssa Marsh-Contreras took the video as the incident unfolded and police finally arrived.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

After traveling home, Paul told sister station KETV that he saw a gun fall out of the alleged shooter’s hand as he and another bystander tackled him.

“The whole time he’s fighting to get up and run away,” Paul said. “We’re fighting each other, you know. We’re fighting to keep him down and he’s fighting to get up.”

“You can’t be scared, you know. Not saying you want it to happen, but there’s always that chance. It could happen at work, the grocery store. This just happened to be the Super Bowl Parade,” Paul said. WLWT/KETV

Many X users said that Mr. Contreras deserved “season tickets for life” or should “never have to pay for a beer again.” Some were writing the usual ridiculous talking points of the anti-gunners like “how did he know the suspect when everyone can carry a gun?” But the issue here is that he ran toward danger instead of away from it. Being unarmed himself didn’t even cross his mind.

In this age of snowflakes who don’t seem to care about anyone but themselves, this kind of heroism is rare.  We need more people like Paul Contreras and the other man that thought about others first. The Chief’s Super Bowl parade should have been a fun celebration, but some morons disrupted it and harmed a lot of people in the process.
