After helping create environment for Griffin’s Trump photo, CNN ‘evaluating’ role in New Year’s Eve coverage

As we reported on Tuesday, alleged comedian Kathy Griffin infuriated many with a shocking photo that shows her holding a mock-up of Donald Trump’s severed head.  The photo was so shocking that even Chelsea Clinton and Keith Olbermann thought she went too far.  Griffin apologized, but CNN says it is evaluating its New Year’s eve coverage — but hasn’t made any decision yet.

“We found what she did disgusting and offensive. We are pleased to see she has apologized and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point,” a CNN spokesperson told Mediaite.

CNN, Mediaite added, “had been relatively quiet about the situation, outside of Tapper addressing it on the air this afternoon” and a tweet issued by Anderson Cooper:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Griffin, Breitbart said, “initially defended herself after the photo surfaced, but then later apologized profusely in a video posted on Twitter.”

“I sincerely apologize,” she said. “I’m a comic. I cross the line. I move the line and then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is way too disturbing.”

No, Griffin, you didn’t just “cross the line.”  You just incited violence against the president and suggested he be murdered in the same way ISIS murders innocent victims.

Let’s be clear — CNN and many other media outlets like the Washington Post and MSNBC — helped create the environment where something like this can happen.  As we’ve reported time and again, liberal media outlets have bent over backward with reports that only serve to inflame the insane left.  Griffin’s photo is just one logical result of that biased coverage.

Why not?  After all, it’s what Media Matters is doing to Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

Newsbusters reminded readers of just a few of her statements on CNN during the 2016 election:

During the 2016 presidential election, Griffin had a few desperate screams for attention that drew eyeballs. Griffin appeared on PBS in November 2015 and told host Tavis Smiley that there was no way she would let then-GOP candidate Dr. Ben Carson “give me a pap smear.”

Griffin appeared in a series of October 2016 YouTube videos in which she seized on a line Michelle Obama used about “when they go low, we go high” to instead inform viewers that “when [Trump] goes low, I go lower.” One could go on and on, but it’s best to be judicious with the attention she receives.

Early in the hours of March 1, Griffin joined MSNBC and a sleepy Chris Matthews following Trump’s Joint Address to Congress, telling his measly viewership that Trump and his entire ship were “going to go down” in the impeachment flames.

So, to paraphrase former President Barack Obama: Yes, CNN, you built this.  Now you need to own it and only you can fix it by firing Griffin.
