Hamas’s deputy leader abroad, Saleh al-Arouri, was killed in an Israeli strike this morning while he sat in a Hamas office in Lebanon. The Jewish state used a drone to target senior Hamas leaders. One of those leaders was al-Arouri.
This action signals that Israel may be returning to the targeted assassination strategy. There is an unconfirmed report that two more Hamas leaders were killed in the bombing.
So far, Hamas and the US have confirmed the assassination, but Israel has not. That’s typical for Israeli military actions. Immediately after a military attack, Israel doesn’t confirm or deny they were involved.
Per Israeli Newspaper Haaretz:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Arouri was the deputy head of the political bureau of the organization, second to Ismail Haniyeh, and the head of the operations division in the West Bank. [Plus he is a major terrorist leader]
b
He was considered a dominant and influential figure in the organization, mainly due to his attempts to develop a militant battalion in the West Bank and due to his residence in Beirut, where he was in close contact with Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. According to estimates, he and Yahya Sinwar were coordinated in their strategic outlook.
Al Arouri spent 16 years in an Israeli prison. When he got out in 2010. After his release, he was deported to Turkey.
Five years ago, the US put a $5 million bounty on Arouri’s head. I called Washington to claim I sent the missile and should get the $5 million, and they just laughed.
In August, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Nasrallah stated with bravado, “For every Israeli attack on Lebanese soil aimed at a Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, Iranian, or others, there will unquestionably be a powerful response that is intolerable and cannot be tolerated.” But the question remains: If Hezbollah’s priority is taking over all of Lebanon, can they afford the time to get dragged into the Israel/Hamas war.
These targeted assassinations do more than send terrorist leaders to meet those 72 virgins promised by the Quran. As Hamas leaders will now have to spend time trying to “stay under the radar,” They will have less time to plan terrorist attacks. They will continue the attacks on Israel, but in the long term, they will spend less time planning and executing attacks.
There is one question about the death of Saleh al-Arouri I can’t figure out. Does anyone know what kind of Shivah basket one should send to a terrorist?
