Florida Pro-Gun Bills, Including Church Concealed Carry, Pass Florida Committees, Head to House/Senate Floor

Florida has always been gun friendly as a general rule. After the Parkland shooting, it became a hotbed of activity by anti-gunners. Gun owners have been forced to fight for their 2nd amendment rights at nearly every turn. Five Florida pro-gun bills have passed their respective committees that are aimed at shoring up Floridians’ ability to keep and bear arms.

The following information was gained from The Gun Writer, who reported information from the NRA/Unified Sportsmen of Florida. The five Florida pro-gun bills are:
HB-1343 – This bill specifically targets the Dept of Agriculture (i.e. anti-gunner Nikki Fried) to prevent the shutdown of the Concealed Weapons & Firearms License website and suspending the online application process in violation of state law. Florida state law prohibits the Dept. of Agriculture from regulating the process beyond what is allowed in state law. We’ve written about Nikki Fired previously (here and here)- she is the only Democrat that has say over firearms permits in Florida, and she is well known for being anti-gun. Her capricious style of issuing gun permits is well known among Floridians. Passed Tuesday 10-6 House Civil Justice Committee.
HB-259 – Allows Concealed Carry in churches. “Restores the private property rights of religious institutions AND the self-defense rights of people, licensed by the state to carry concealed firearms, who go to church. It allows churches to make their own decisions, however, it allows property owners who lease, rent or lend property to churches to put their wishes in the leases or contracts. One amendment that made the bill better also passed. Two amendments that would have taken away from the bill were filed: one failed and the other was withdrawn. Passed 12-6 in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
If you remember the Texas church shooting in 2019, it was the armed citizens of that church family that stopped the gunman from doing more harm. Florida is simply making certain that the self-defense rights of congregations are safe-guarded, as well as any churches that don’t want armed members.
