Facebook Adopts Corporate Disguise in Rebranding as ‘Meta’
Nobody’s falling for it, however.
Facebook is in trouble, and they know it.
The social media network has a number of disastrous debacles currently being juggled by their PR team, with some of these controversies far too heavy to ever truly dissipate.
Now, in what appears to be a desperate attempt at a rebirth of sorts, Facebook will be changing its identity.
Facebook on Thursday announced that it has changed its company name to Meta.
The name change was announced at the Facebook Connect augmented and virtual reality conference. The new name reflects the company’s growing ambitions beyond social media. Facebook, now known as Meta, has adopted the new moniker, based on the sci-fi term metaverse, to describe its vision for working and playing in a virtual world.
The company’s CEO dropped some boilerplate gobbledygook to get the ball rolling, but really didn’t say much at all.

“Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.
Social media users saw right through the stunt, however, with many remarking on how it appeared that Facebook was simply rolling out a rebranding due to the inescapable and awful allegations that they’ve faced in recent weeks.
