Cody Balmer, 38, was arrested by Pennsylvania authorities as a suspect in the firebombing of Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro’s home late Saturday night. Gov Shapiro and his family were asleep in the house when the attack took place. Balmer told the court that he would have beaten the Governor with his hammer if he was confronted. The judge denied bail for the charges: attempted murder, aggravated arson, burglary and terrorism.
Police said Balmer hopped the fence at the official governor’s mansion in Harrisburg home about 2 a.m. Sunday and hauled a handful of Molotov cocktails into the historic residence while Shapiro, his wife and his two children slept…
Balmer told the judge that he had no income and had been living with his parents for the last year, and when asked whether he had any kids replied that he had “a lot” but declined to elaborate.
He also said that “the rumor” about his dangerous mental health was true, and suggested that medication he took to treat it had been negatively affecting him.
“Medication led me to different types of behaviors,” Balmer told the court. New York Post
In point of fact, Balmer’s mother stated that he “went off” his medications.
PA Governor Josh Shapiro is a Democrat and set up his mansion toward a traditional dinner – the Jewish celebration of Passover called a “Seder.” He is not particularly well-liked by some (if any of the comments on X are an indication). He portrays himself as a “moderate” and is pro-Israel.

It is truly fortunate that Gov Shapiro, his wife and children survived the attack without injury. Cody Balmer “actively evaded” the law enforcement stationed at the residence before the attack and “forcibly entered” it to start the fire.
If Balmer should escape punishment due to Pennsylvania authorities feeling sorry for him, it will guarantee more of this kind of horrific violence will continue.
