When he’s not embarrassing himself by pretending his importance is such that Secret Service agents should recognize him, CNN’s Jim Acosta can frequently be found doing his job in the White House briefing room. Which, as far as we can tell, consists of yelling out questions when he’s not been called on as much as humanly possible.
Such was the case during a Monday briefing with White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.
First, Acosta went with a line of questioning you’d expect from a CNN correspondent – a dumb line of questioning.
He wanted to know if recent comments made by Rudy Giuliani about a hypothetical situation in which the President shot James Comey amounted to violent rhetoric, unbecoming of the President of the United States.
“If he shot James Comey, he’d be impeached the next day,” Giuliani told the Huffington Post. “Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to do to him.”
“Is that appropriate language coming from the president’s outside lawyer, to be talking about the president shooting Jim Comey in that fashion?” Acosta asked quietly clutching his pearls.
Sanders responded that the query might be better posed to the man who said it. “You would have to ask Rudy Giuliani about his specific comments,” she said.
I'd have more sympathy for Acosta's griping to Sanders if he used his time to ask worthwhile questions. All that to ask if Giuliani's language was appropriate?

Feeling entitled to more time than his colleagues, Acosta moved on and decided his next question might actually have some substance. Except he never got to ask it.
“If I could ask a follow-up question…” Acosta said.
“Sorry I’m going to keep going,” Sanders responded, swatting him away like a fly through his continued protestations. “Not today, Jim.”

‘Not today, Jim,’ might as well be Acosta and CNN’s new motto.
Sanders shutting down Acosta’s grandstanding is practically an everyday occurrence at this point. At a previous press conference in which he pretended his network wasn’t “fake news,” she had to shut Acosta down when he refused to stop spouting off questions.
“Jim, I’m gonna say once and for all that I’m moving on,” Sanders said. “I’m not taking another question from you.”
Why not make that prediction a reality and revoke his credentials?
