As Russia withdrew from the areas surrounding Kyiv, as well as surrendering Chernobyl, they left a wake of death behind them. Bodies littered the streets of Bucha, Irpin, and Hostomel. Some were bound with their hands behind their backs. Some were thrown into sewers. Some were pitched into mass graves. 410 civilians dead, many in the most horrible way, were found in the towns around Kyiv after the Russians withdrew. The Ukraine says it can never forgive. Likely Mariupol also experienced a massacre, but until the Russians leave, they will not be found. There may be even more.
Bucha is a suburb of Kyiv, as are several other towns where bodies were found. Zelensky and parliament members visited the town and witnessed the carnage. He called it “genocide.”

The bodies of the mayor of a Ukrainian village outside Kyiv and her husband and adult son were reportedly found in a shallow grave after the three were abducted by Russian occupying forces.
Mayor of the Village of Motyzhyn, Olga Sukhenko, was “unfortunately killed in captivity by the Russians,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk confirmed.
The brutality of Russian troops should come as no surprise — some were Chechen units, some were Wagner Group, in additon to the regulars.They are known for their vicious brutality. Russia claimed that the images were “staged” however, it would be difficult to stage the dirt on the hands and bodies of the victims in addition to the signs of destruction in satellite images. One elderly woman was reportedly beheaded while attempting to leave. AP journalists reportedly witnessed at least 21 bodies, some of which had been shot at close range. The carnage is real, in spite of Russian denials.
The backlash has been fierce across Europe. From more sanctions to ejecting Russian diplomats, there is a wave of fury over the pictures of devastation in Ukraine. Zelensky is set to address the UN Security Council on Tuesday. The UK President of the council promised truth, even as Russia demanded the meeting to complain about the “provocations of Bucha radicals.” The US will seek to oust Russia from the Security Council.

There is a serious danger in this hate-fest: Russia is still a nuclear power. Even tactical nukes could come off the table and ICBM nukes could replace them. There is a reason Europe has been experiencing a run on Potassium iodide. Though some insiders say that Putin’s reign will come to an end within months as he may be deposed, the world may not have that much time if he snaps.
