Boston Professor – “Jingle Bells is Racist”

jingle bells

Liberals lie awake on their cold, no white sheet beds, looking for a way to be offended. Like the song Jingle Bells, for instance. A Boston University professor says that the song Jingle Bells is “racist.” But then, everything is “racist” now days.

“Its origins emerged from the economic needs of a perpetually unsuccessful man, the racial politics of antebellum Boston, the city’s climate, and the intertheatrical repertoire of commercial blackface performers moving between Boston and New York…As I mentioned in my article, the first documented performance of the song is in a blackface minstrel hall in Boston in 1857, the same year it was copyrighted.” Kyna Hamill, BU professor

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The song was written by James Lord Pierpont, and published under the title “One Horse Open Sleigh” in 1857. He was an abolitionist church minister- a-bol-i-tion-ist means he was against slavery, for you liberals who’ve never cracked open a history book without needing a safe space.

The title “jingle bells” refers to the bells that were commonly attached to the tack as the horses trotted along.

Lyrics:

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot.

Now the ground is white
Go it while you’re young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed*
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack, you’ll take the lead!

[Chorus] Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

There is another verse that is generally skipped, but has to do with the man falling in the snow and another man laughing at him.

Ms. Hamill has gone above and beyond sanity to come up with this conclusion. I bet she doesn’t like anything white- oh wait, she’s white.

Kyna Hamill

*Two forty refers to a mile in two minutes and forty seconds at the trot, or 22.5 miles per hour.
