Allowing Lawlessness – When Pro-Palestinian Protesters Took Over a Seattle Freeway

The Bible tells us that in the end times, “lawlessness will abound.” But that doesn’t happen in a vacuum… it is allowed by leadership (using the term ‘leader’ loosely).  When Pro-Palestinian activists took over I-5 in Seattle and blocked traffic for nearly 4 hours on January 6, Mayor Bruce Harrell allegedly gave a stand-down order to police. Which caused not just the miles-long backup of traffic but forced police to “negotiate” with the Hamas supporters. That’s how lawlessness is propagated.

Eventually, the protesters decided to leave, but not until several miles worth of angry Seattle citizens were trapped in a nearly 6-mile traffic snarl. People with doctor’s appointments, or the need to get to work…even an ambulance were trapped in the mess. Then some of the protesters left 12 cars in the middle of the freeway so that police had to have them towed. As soon as they left I-5, they walked to an overpass and blocked traffic again, this time leaving a trail of fake babies for someone to clean up.

The Washington State Patrol stated they didn’t have the resources to deal with the huge numbers of protesters. (Ari Hoffman at The Post Millennial). Mayor Harrell has a history of allowing such lawlessness, but then, so does Seattle. After the George Floyd debacle in 2020, Seattle’s then Mayor also called the deadly lawlessness (the arson, riots, and takeover of an entire section of the city) a “summer of love.” If that’s “love” someone’s wires are crossed.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Democrat Governor Inslee is term-limited and can’t run again (thankfully). The Republican front-runner candidate for Governor, Dave Reichert, said it this way:

“Like many of you I’m tired of watching the few violate the rights of many. I’m tired of those few not respecting the rights and freedoms of their families, friends and neighbors. Today’s protest displayed the continued disintegration of our society. The voices of Americans should be heard and we all have that right. Those voices can be raised and more likely listened to when presented lawfully peacefully and respectfully. Blocking traffic for hours on I-5 stops on the rights of others is not respectful and creates serious safety concerns. This disrespect and unlawful display not only prevents first responders from going to emergency calls but disrupts the lives of thousands freedom of speech is cherished in Washington state, but it cannot violate the rights of families friends and neighbors.” Dave Reichert

When one activist rammed into a protester on I-5 a few years back, WSP was told to give space for protests at certain times of the night on I-5. That’s what I meant about leadership allowing lawlessness. From Mayor Harrell to the top of the WSP, real leadership is sadly lacking in leftist Seattle. Plus, protesters only succeeded in making people angry instead of winning them to their side.
