Alec Baldwin and Armorer Charged in Rust Shooting

Involuntary manslaughter

Alec Baldwin and set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were charged on Thursday with 2 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins. Involuntary manslaughter recognizes they didn’t “mean” to do it, but it carries with it the thought of blatant disregard for human life. Bluntly, both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed should have checked the gun before it was used. Their failure to do so resulted in a death. Both of them could face up to 18 months in prison if convicted. (No charges were made for the non-fatal shooting of Joel Souza.) The Rust shooting has been under investigation since October of 2021.

Baldwin has been extremely arrogant in this process, attempting to shift blame to everyone but himself. He even stated that he “did not pull the trigger” when he certainly did do that. The prosecutor saw that he was remorseful but stated that “if he had done his job, no one would have died.”

“One of the biggest mistakes Alec Baldwin made was to go on George Stephanopoulos’ program and say he didn’t pull the trigger. That was a lie I guarantee you that’s going to come back to haunt him.” Leo Terrell, Fox News

The blame game will continue as both he and the set armorer have been charged. Whose responsibility was it to check the gun? Both of them. Firearm handling is not a joke. Baldwin has been a far-left voice against guns for decades, yet failed to check the gun on the set to see if it had a live round. Whining about being handed a “cold gun” hasn’t changed the facts: he pointed the gun at Hutchins, and he pulled the trigger. Three people were supposed to make sure everything was safe for the crew: Alec Baldwin (one of the producers), Gutierrez (the armorer) and Assistant Director Dave Halls (who signed a plea agreement for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. He received a suspended sentence and six months of probation). The Rust shooting could prove to be Baldwin’s Achilles heel.

“Baldwin has a strong defense case, and I can see him pushing the case to trial for legal and public relations reasons. He has to think about his acting career in addition to doing time. But if he rolls the dice and loses at trial, the judge may hammer him for causing Hutchins’ death.” Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Neama Rahmani  to Fox

Translation: Baldwin should stop being an arrogant ass and let his attorneys do the talking.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
