Administration recruits ‘sexiest man alive’ to help boost Obamacare enrollment
If the title of this post left you scratching your head and saying to yourself, “He’s been pushing the health care fiasco since Day 1,” you’re not alone. Only you’d be mistaken. The reference is not to the impossibly gorgeous (read: self-deluded) hunk o’ man flesh shown at the left. Rather, it is to pop singer Adam Levine.
According to Bloomberg News (via the Weekly Standard), Levine (shown here) “won the designation from People magazine last month” and “is among the celebrities who’ll be promoting enrollment in online health insurance exchanges as part of a social media campaign kicking off tomorrow.”
[Video on Levine’s winning of award here]With enrollment totals behind administration projections after the botched start-up of the federal exchange, 17 state exchanges joined by an advocacy group are drawing on Obama administration allies in entertainment and sports to promote sign-ups, using social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Reprising a tactic President Barack Obama successfully employed in his 2012 re-election, organizers plan to use celebrity promotions and professionally produced videos aimed at inspiring Americans to encourage friends to enroll. The goal is generating 100 million Internet contacts before open enrollment closes March 31.
So does this mean the administration has given up on the idea of using the other “sexiest man alive” to pitch Obamacare? And if so, can we assume the picture here is an indication of how he feels about that decision?
