328 Chinese Nationals Caught Crossing the Southern Border

The Department of Homeland Security states that so far this year, 328 Chinese nationals have attempted to cross our Southern Border. There have also been three people from South Korea, 122 from the Dominican Republic, and about 1,000 from Mexico –  countries all of which have cases of Coronavirus. If that many are being caught…how many are not?

According to KVEO, the CBP has not yet seen any of the illegals being sick with the disease. But if the situation continues, the clock is ticking. They are picking up at least 5 Chinese per day.

The Coronavirus in China erupted in December, but Chinese officials didn’t tell the world until January. About 5 million people left the city of Wuhan before news of the virus spread, as we previously reported.

“The individuals that are coming in at our 11 airports that are being funneled, we have very good information of their travel history, of their medical history. We’re not going to have that same set of fidelity for the individuals if this continues to grow at the southwest border.” Chad Wolf, Acting Homeland Security Secretary to the House Homeland Security Committee

Wolf was grilled by Rep Val Demings, (D-FL) of the House committee who tried to say that Trump told him to link illegals to the coronavirus. He responded that it was not the case.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“You were not, surely, suggesting that the problem that we are seeing in this country with the coronavirus is the result of — or was caused by undocumented immigrants coming across the south border. Is that what you’re saying?” Val Demings (D-FL)

He told her that it’s simply that illegal immigration is a risk factor in the process. Although the President initially thought of closing the border, he decided against it. The COVID-19 situation evolves minute to minute.

US Customs and Border Patrol told KOB news that they are taking precautions.

“CBP continues to facilitate CDC’s enhanced health screening at U.S. ports of entry. Consistent with CBP’S procedures, and in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation, individuals encountered by CBP with a nexus to China within 14 days of the encounter or with symptoms of illness are referred to CDC or local health officials for additional health screening.

Consistent with existing CBP procedures, individuals apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol between the ports of entry with symptoms of illness are referred to CDC or local health officials for additional health screening. Additionally, all persons in U.S. Border Patrol custody who meet the CDC’s coronavirus travel history and enhanced screening guidelines are being referred to CDC for additional screening.

Specific data on individuals referred to CDC or individuals deemed inadmissible under the travel restriction is not available due to operational sensitivities and because information continues to change rapidly.”

The risk factor grows when there may be more people who bypass the border crossings and do not get caught.

The Washington Times reported,

Many would-be undocumented immigrants from China try to enter by being smuggled in cars through the official border crossings, though an increasing number are now being snared by the Border Patrol after they’ve already gotten in.

In one case in January agents stopped a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and found 10 Chinese migrants piled on top of each other in the truck, along with five Mexican migrants. The truck driver had been trying to avoid detection by blending in with border wall construction crews.

One of the Chinese men said he was paying up to 40,000 Chinese Yuan to be smuggled into the U.S. — or about $5,750.

As Congress refuses to enact immigration reform, we still do not know how many people have crossed our border without getting caught.  As the US deals with COVID-19 outbreaks, people bypassing our border procedures could prove to be a serious problem at some point.
