2021 will go down in history as the year Democracy died. It died in Hong Kong, where a once freedom loving capitalist society flourished. It is now just another place where the tyrannical tendrils of communism strangled it out of existence. The same is happening in the USA -thanks to the tyranny of a puppet president. Let’s take a look at Hong Kong first:
When the student protests erupted in 2019, they began to feel empowered and hopeful that they could throw off the yoke of the Chinese Communist regime by their sheer numbers. but as the movement grew, they began to be attacked by outsiders as police stood by and did nothing. Undeterred, they protested as a sea of black, waving American flags and singing our national anthem as well as one of their own. They were going to win. They even thanked President Trump as they marched onward. But soon, when a new “national security law” came before their communist-backed leaders, it was the beginning of the end.
The national security law quickly strangled the protest movement, as demonstrators realized the gloves had come off and they would be punished as traitors and subversives for assembling in public. The law was viciously effective at shutting down student activist groups, the lifeblood of the protest movement. University administrations installed political officers and monitored the student body for any sign of dissent.
By the middle of 2021, hundreds of students had pulled out of Hong Kong universities as their parents made plans to flee overseas to escape the witch hunt. In September, the university system announced plans to forcibly “educate” students in the glories of the national security law at every level, from primary schools to college. This is tantamount to forcing the children of Hong Kong to listen to threats from the Chinese Communist Party for an hour a day during their entire academic careers.
Then came the crackdown on formerly free media. Examples: The Epoch Times’ Hong Kong office was burned and vandalized, destroying their printing apparatus and doing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. The “Apple Daily” was forced to shut down entirely as people scrambled to get the last issue before it disappeared entirely from the scene. Their founder, Jimmy Lai (74) was sent to prison, probably for the rest of his life. Many others have also been shut down because of their pro-democracy stance.
Freedom isn’t free
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The Communist leaders held an “election” 2021 in which no pro-democracy candidates were allowed to run. Only Communist candidates were on the ballots. Hong Kong unions were disbanded after being labeled “seditious.” The last vestiges of democracy died the day in 2021 that the Communist regime tore down the “Pillar of Shame”- a statue that commemorated the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
Are there any parallels with what has happened in the USA? Many. The lockdowns from the China-virus. The power-hungry Democrats who have run roughshod over every portion of American society, even claiming that Jan 6 was an “insurrection.” They’ve enabled a corrupt Federal machine to attack ordinary citizens. There is no difference in their actions and the actions of the Chinese communists. Beware, America. The protesters in Hong Kong thought they were making progress. They were not.
Let us all remember 2021 and stop the march toward communism that has attempted to tear apart our nation. We are a Constitutional Republic — let’s act like one.
