Beginning on March 21, 2016, the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, will begin discussion and eventually vote on what is known as Article 34 – a plan to ban and seize “assault weapons,” including semi-automatics.
It is occurring in the birthplace of the American Revolution – the same town where the very first battle was fought for freedom.
Blatantly unconstitutional
The Daily Caller reported,
Among other things, Article 34 includes any firearm that is semi-automatic and can accept a magazine that will hold more than 10 rounds. It also includes any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds. The article also has a provision in which Lexington’s licensed gun owners who own firearms included in the ban would be forced to sell, render inoperable, or have them seized and destroyed by the police department.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The author of Article 34 is Robert Rotberg, one of the town meeting members. The people of Lexington send around 200 people to be “Town Meeting Members” and vote on things like budgets and other city business. They only meet once per year. Mr. Rotberg has seized (pardon the pun) on a plan almost verbatim from Highland Park, IL.
Highland Park has a rigid gun ban – a challenge to it was rebuffed by the Supreme Court in December of 2015, which was seen as a victory for the gun grabbers.
Lexington – “Lay down your arms, you damned rebels”
On April 19th, Patriots Day, the battle of Lexington Green will be re-enacted in the town.
When the British marched toward Concord on April 19, 1775, their intent was to seize caches of weapons from local militias. They went through Lexington because they had heard that those ‘seditious men’ Samuel Adams and John Hancock were staying there. Word of their coming traveled rapidly through the colony.
Paul Revere, William Dawes, and others rode hard through the countryside the night before, warning people of the battle to come.
The commander of the Lexington Militia, Captain John Parker, told the men who were already prepared to follow him, and sent the others to fill their bullet bags from the cache at the meeting house.
When the British arrived, their leader shouted,
‘Lay down your arms, you damned rebels, or you are all dead men. Fire!’
Though no one was wounded in that exact moment, many died in the ensuing battle that day in Lexington, and the militia company dispersed. But America went on to win the war with Britain against all the odds.
The British government wanted the weapons.Â
It is ironic that now, in 2016, the people of Lexington, Massachusetts might be willing to lay down their arms in favor of a liberal fool who knows nothing of history nor the reason behind the 2nd Amendment.
