Democrat Jon Ossoff bans conservative media from campaign event on eve of election

Late Monday, the Daily Caller reported that Democrat Jon Ossoff banned a conservative media outlet — the Washington Free Beacon — from a campaign event held the day before Tuesday’s special election in Georgia against Karen Handel.

According to the Daily Caller:

Free Beacon writer Brent Scher was escorted from the campaign event by communications staffer Sacha Haworth who told him, “Thank you for your interest in covering the race” when Scher asked why he was being removed, Scher told TheDC.

Scher told TheDC that the campaign event was filled with reporters from other news organizations. The Free Beacon, it seems, was singled out for special treatment.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

Scher, the Daily Caller said, has covered the staggering amount of money Ossoff has spent in the race, observing that only a paltry 2.5 percent of his donations came from Georgia:

Democrat Jon Ossoff continues to bring in an overwhelming majority of his fundraising haul from outside of Georgia, with 97.5 percent of the contributions his campaign received over the past two months coming from donors in other states, according to a newly released campaign filing.

The filing, covering donations received from March 30 through May 30, shows that only 2,158, or 2.5 percent, of the 86,313 individual contributions the campaign received were from Georgians. A smaller percentage of those Georgia donations came from donors within the Sixth Congressional District that Ossoff is running to represent.

Scher has also noted that Ossoff is a carpetbagger.  For those not familiar with the post-Civil War term, it refers to someone who does not live in the district he or she wants to represent.

Ossoff claims he lives just “down the street” from the district, but, Scher reported, Ossoff lives much farther than the mere blocks his campaign claimed.

Don’t hold your breath…

The race in Georgia has tightened considerably with the Trafalgar Group showing Handel ahead by two points.

Robert Cahaly of the Trafalgar Group said of the latest poll:

There is no doubt in my mind that the shooting at the GOP Congressional Baseball practice has had an impact, but I don’t see that it is the impact that most pundits expect. This tragedy and the attempt to place the blame on right-wing rhetoric has actually served to motivate frustrated Republicans who were considering sitting the election out or voting for Ossoff.

The shift we see toward Handel in the closing days of this race is a bit of GOP homecoming. These disenchanted Republicans are beginning to put their concerns aside and see this election as a choice–a choice between the Party and leaders they’re disappointed in and a Democrat Party and leaders that trouble them even more.

As we reported recently, Handel appeared to be the target of left-wing domestic terrorists who targeted her with a package that contained a suspicious substance.
