Dem. Senator demands new CIA director accept global warming dogma

On Thursday, the Washington Examiner reported that freshman Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., grilled incoming CIA Director Mike Pompeo on climate change, the latest metaphor for global warming, and essentially demanded he accept liberal dogma on the subject.

According to the Examiner:

“CIA Director Brennan, who has spent a 25-year career at the CIA as an analyst, a senior manager and station chief in the field, has that when ‘CIA analysts look for deeper causes of rising instability in the world, one of the causes those CIA analysts see is the impact of climate change,'” Harris began. “Do you have any reason to doubt the assessment of those CIA analysts?”

Pompeo, a Republican congressman from Kansas, replied that he was unfamiliar with the material Harris was referencing but that the CIA would gather information on all threats to American security, including any that stem from climatic activity, and present them to policymakers.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“In the past you have questioned the scientific consensus on climate change,” Harris followed up. She began to cite NASA and various other sources saying that at least 97 percent of active climate scientists believe in global warming caused by human activity.

Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey observed:

First off, the 97% claim is a hoax, one that got exposed almost four years ago. In 2015, a team of researchers published a more extensive debunking of the 97% myth in the peer-reviewed journal Science & Education, and found that the consensus on anthropogenic global warming was closer to 0.3%.

But we digress.

Harris asked: “Do you have any reason to doubt NASA’s findings?”

Pompeo responded:

Senator, I’ve actually spoken to this in my political life some. My commentary, most all has been directed to ensuring the policies that America put in place actually achieve the objective of ensuring we didn’t have catastrophic harm that resulted from changing climate. I continue to hold that view. I, frankly, as the director of CIA, would prefer today not to get into the details of climate debate and science. It seems — my role is going to be so different and unique from that. It is going to be to work alongside warriors keeping Americans safe. And so I stand by the things I’ve said previously with respect to that issue.

“So, I’m not clear,” Harris shot back. “Do you believe NASA’s findings are debatable?”

“I haven’t spent enough time to tell you that I’ve looked at NASA’s findings in particular,” Pompeo said.  “I can’t give you any judgment about that today.”

But that wasn’t good enough for Harris, who demanded the new CIA Director accept global warming dogma.

Of course, because liberal hoaxes are far more important than national security.

Here’s video of the exchange:

The Examiner added:

Harris, who was elected in November over another Democrat without a Republican general election opponent, later said Pompeo’s views on global warming called into question his ability to accept evidence and the consensus of the intelligence community.

And Democrats wonder why they lost in November…
