White House to House Dems on ‘illegitimate’ and ‘unconstitutional’ impeachment probe: POUND SAND!
On Tuesday, the White House sent a letter to House Democrats excoriating them for what was called an “illegitimate” and “unconstitutional” impeachment probe. The eight-page letter, written by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, also informed Democrats the Administration would not cooperate in their effort to overturn the 2016 election for partisan political reasons.
“The facts are clear,” the White House said in an email sent Tuesday evening. “The House Democrats’ ‘impeachment inquiry,’ undertaken without a single vote of authorization by the full House—an astonishing breach of precedent—is constitutionally invalid and violates both basic due process rights and the separation of powers. By the admission of its own advocates in Congress, it plainly seeks to reverse the election of 2016 and to influence the election of 2020. Not only is there no legitimate basis for the inquiry, but the committees’ actions in pursuing it themselves raise serious questions that demand full transparency with the American people.”
The letter also took issue with the Democrats’ efforts to deny President Trump his rights of due process under the Constitution.
“You have denied the President the right to cross-examine witnesses, to call witnesses, to receive transcripts of testimony, to have access to evidence, to have counsel present, and many other basic rights guaranteed to all Americans,” the letter states.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“You have conducted your proceedings in secret. You have violated civil liberties and the separation of powers by threatening Executive Branch officials, claiming that you will seek to punish those who exercise fundamental constitutional rights and prerogatives. All of this violates the Constitution, the rule of law, and every past precedent. Never before in our history has the House of Representatives—under the control of either political party—taken the American people down the dangerous path you seem determined to pursue.”
On Tuesday, Breitbart reported that House Democrats are seeking to impeach Trump based on information they are keeping secret from the public:
The Democrat-led House Committees on Oversight and Reform, Intelligence, and Foreign Affairs pursuing the impeachment inquiry are refusing to release the full transcripts of the testimony provided by the first two witnesses.
Last week, former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker and Intelligence Community (IC) Inspector General (IG) Michael Atkinson provided their testimony behind closed doors.
To the dismay of Republicans, witnesses expected to come to Capitol Hill this week are expected to follow suit.
Reps. Eliot Engel (D-NY), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Elijah Cummings have chosen to release bits and pieces of the evidence gathered so far that favors their impeachment effort.
Engel, Schiff, and Cummings are the committee chairmen leading the impeachment investigation.
Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-NY, called on Democrats to release the transcripts of Ambassador Volker’s testimony:
House Dems should IMMEDIATELY release Amb Volker’s several hour long transcribed interview so ALL can read it. He candidly & professionally OBLITERATED the bogus charge POTUS made a quid pro quo offer to Zelensky connecting aid to Ukraine with an investigation into Bidens. https://t.co/8zFSIoRHjX

It's been 24 hrs & the Volker transcript still hasn't been released by House Dems. No good reason why this hasn't been done yet. Anything to keep the Schiff quid pro quo fairy tale alive one more night. These tactics are unfair to the American public & dividing our great country. pic.twitter.com/xNTfJeEBUc

Of course, dividing Americans is exactly what the Democrats hope to do. But the White House isn’t sitting quietly.
“Your unprecedented actions have left the president with no choice. In order to fulfill his duties to the American people, the Constitution, the Executive Branch, and all future occupants of the Office of the Presidency, President Trump and his administration cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances,” the White House said in its letter.
Translation: POUND SAND!
And that’s being polite.
WH tells reporters no admin officials will testify in impeachment probe. Sr officials says “that is administration policy under current circumstances.“
