VIRGINIA ELECTION: Will A Technicality Take The Senate Gavel Away From Democrats?

Is the Dem Senate candidate disqualified for lying about residency requirements?

Can it really be called an election if we DON’T have some kind of a constitutional crisis to be resolved? By that standard, last week’s election officially qualifies.

The results of one race are almost certain to play out in court after a winning Democrat, Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, has been accused of lying about the residency status question on official election forms. The accusation was raised by several neighbors.

If that complaint holds up, it could disqualify the candidate. This sets up a thorny question.

Dems would want a rematch with another election. Obviously. But the GOP would insist that by running a candidate who had disqualified herself on the paperwork, the GOP candidate should win.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Hashmi won her election against Republican Hayden Fisher last Tuesday with 62% of the vote. Fisher told The Daily Wire, “I plan to stop them from certifying the election. She’s disqualified, that means I ran unopposed as a matter of law.” —Townhall

Effectively, that candidate won unopposed.

That would bring the Senate to an even split. As we saw at the Federal level, the tie-breaking vote is taken from the Executive Branch. In Virginia’s case, that would be cast by Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears.
