Unannounced Trip: Biden Visited Ukraine, Brought US Checkbook. Still No Visit to East Palestine, Ohio

Biden still has not visited East Palestine, Ohio, the site of the devastating train derailment. But he did sneak out unannounced to visit Kyiv, Ukraine, and he brought the US Checkbook with him, promising half a billion dollars more in aid. Biden visited Ukraine on February 20. It was a closely guarded secret …except for the State Department warning Russia a short time before he arrived.  The trip consisted only of Biden, a handful of aides, and no press members.

“We did notify the Russians that President Biden would be traveling to Kyiv. We did so some hours before his departure for de-confliction purposes.” Jake Sullivan

Sullivan didn’t release the Russian response to the news. Their response was likely harsh.

“It’s very symbolic that we fully define our resilience through two meetings… my visit in December and the visit of the president of the United States to Kyiv today.” Ukraine President Zelenskyy

Symbolic, maybe. Expensive, definitely. The US has provided Billions in aid to Ukraine since the war began. Rep Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution to stop the drain on US finances in light of the lack of a peace deal. The bill hopes to force such a deal, but thus far there has been no movement in that direction from either side. There may be little movement in Congress on the resolution, either. Some outlets said the US has provided $5.6 Billion in aid since 2022, other estimates were much higher.

“In 2022, the Biden administration and the U.S. Congress have directed nearly $50 billion in assistance to Ukraine, which includes humanitarian, financial, and military support, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, a German research institute.” CFR.org

On top of the money involved, the State Department notified Russia of Biden’s trip prior to his arrival. Talk about dodging a bullet. Most intelligence groups expect a fresh barrage of Russian attacks on Kyiv as the Feb 24th anniversary of the start of the massive war with Russia looms. Reporters who were on the ground in Ukraine stated that they could hear air raid sirens in the background.

If Biden visited a nation in the midst of the possibility of attacks, why couldn’t he gather the courage to visit a small Ohio town that is suffering devastation? Because he thinks of Americans last?

Meanwhile, Cincinnati, Ohio (300 miles from East Palestine) cut off intakes to the Ohio River on Feb 17 due to an increased concern over water quality after the derailment. While the EPA, Cincinnati, and State of Ohio have stated the water is fine and there has been no detection of contaminants, people do not believe them. The smell of chemicals is still present in certain areas. And don’t forget that FEMA initially rejected disaster aid for East Palestine, although FEMA officials were scheduled to visit the town.

Let’s be blunt: every President that sees devastation in a part of the United States has visited the site to reassure the people that everything will eventually be all right. Except Biden. Former President Trump is set to visit East Palestine on Wednesday. If Biden is so tone deaf that he doesn’t care about Americans first, then he and his giggle-box VP should step down and leave office.
