Nazif Yilmaz, Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Education, issued a not-so-thinly-veiled threat against Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.

Netanyahu posted a video of air strikes on Gaza, which may have precipitated the threat. Keep in mind that the leader of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, is a not-so-soft Muslim. His cabinet members are the same, including Nazif Yilmaz. The nation is a NATO member and has done some things over the years that are not particularly in keeping with “partnerships.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
One example: the controversies around Incirlik Airbase, as a Turkish nationalist leader suggested the US relocate from Turkey after we shot down a Turkish drone that posed a threat to US troops in Syria. Turkey has repeatedly caused issues in Syria since they hate the Kurdish militias assisting US forces.
The Pentagon said US F-16 fighter jets shot down a drone belonging to NATO ally Turkey last Thursday that was deemed a potential threat to American forces in Syria.
Turkish military officials initially denied that the drone belonged to the armed forces, but the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed last Friday that the drone was Turkey’s. Some reports said it belonged to the Turkish intelligence agency MİT. The Turkish Minute
Nazif Yilmaz is just the tip of the Turkish problem. Erdogan has expressed upset over the movement of US aircraft carriers and strike groups to the region, even as the USS Dwight D Eisenhower is set to follow the USS Gerald R Ford.
“What will the aircraft carrier of the U.S. do near Israel, why do they come? What will boats around and aircraft on it will do? They will hit Gaza and around, and take steps for serious massacres there.” Tayyip Erdogan
Turkey is not exactly in Europe. Why they are in NATO is a serious question. They often obstruct rather than assist NATO actions. although they finally acquiesced to the membership of Finland to NATO. The actual purpose of the US naval movement is to set deterrence, and a show of force for Israel, not “take steps for serious massacres there.”
Trump may be right- we may be on the precipice of WWIII. If so, we’d better knuckle down and get a strong leader before it’s too late.
