President Trump, in an 8-ish minute speech on the national airwaves, defended the request for a “wall” at our southern border. He had spent much of the day receiving information from a myriad of sources to help him defend secure borders. The media and Schumer/Pelosi rigidly “fact checked” him in response.
Secure Borders a necessity
He talked about the crisis of the heart and soul.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“One in three women are sexually assaulted on the dangerous trek up through Mexico. Women and children are the biggest victims by far of our broken system. This is the tragic reality of illegal immigration on our southern border.”
“We are out of space to hold them and we have no way to promptly return them back home to their country.” – a statement about what the DHS Secretary refers to as a humanitarian crisis with thousands of sick illegal children arriving. And Nancy Pelosi said blatantly that “I reject your facts.”
He mentioned several statistics of drugs that are coming into the United States and the costs to American citizens. He also mentioned several cases of Americans that had been tragically murdered by illegals. He stated that he had held the hands of women grieving their lost loved ones, and brought up the recent case of Cpl Ronil Singh murdered by illegal Gustavo Perez Arriaga.
“Our southern border is a pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs, including meth, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl. Every week 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone, 90 percent of which floods across from our southern border. More Americans will die from drugs this year than were killed in the entire Vietnam War.”
“All Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration.It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages.”
Nancy Pelosi famously said that the border wall is “immoral.” And yet she, along with numerous others like her have walls. The President drew attention to that fact by saying “They don’t have walls around their homes because they hate the people outside. They have walls because they love the people inside.”
“This situation could be resolved in a 45 minute meeting. I have invited congressional leadership to the White House tomorrow to get this done.”
“The government remains shut down for one reason and one reason only because Democrats will not fund the wall.”
He also mentioned that the whole thing was due to him being elected President. He’s right about that one. This is obstructionism at its best.
He did not announce a declaration of emergency to build the wall as some thought he would. He did mention that a steel barrier had been requested rather than a concrete wall.
He stated that the savings from the new Mexico trade agreement would pay for the steel barrier. He also stated the costs of illegals in the US would be greatly reduced by the securing of our border – also a way to pay for the wall.
The gridlock continues, and with the response of Democrats who feel that having a barrier is somehow bad for the nation (when other countries have them), it’s going to be a long ride.
