Trump Plans to Keep SecDef James Mattis

Bob Woodward’s new book “Fear: Trump in the White House” doesn’t sit well with many of President Trump’s cabinet members. Especially since it was “sourced anonymously.” But in specific, things said about SecDef James Mattis rankled this Marine General…and it’s always best not to do that. Trump says he plans to keep Mattis.

Woodward claimed that Mattis said that Trump’s understanding of world affairs was like a “fifth or sixth grader.” Mattis had this to say about the story:

“While I generally enjoy reading fiction, this is a uniquely Washington brand of literature, and his anonymous sources do not lend credibility…In serving in this administration, the idea that I would show contempt for the elected Commander-in-Chief, President Trump, or tolerate disrespect to the office of the President from within our Department of Defense, is a product of someone’s rich imagination.” James Mattis, Secretary of Defense

This is a United States Marine General – a well respected one. He doesn’t take his oath lightly, he hates the limelight, and he is careful about how he says things. He takes his own advice: “Engage your brain before you engage your weapon.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

When the President asked Mattis if he really said that about him, the SecDef emphatically said no and wrote up a statement.  Trump then said that he was happy with James Mattis and planned to keep him.

According to the Military Times, Mattis also became frustrated with former Press Secretary Sean Spicer when he continually hounded him to appear on television shows.

“Sean, I’ve killed people for a living. If you call me again, I’m going to f–king send you to Afghanistan. Are we clear?”

That one is more in character for Mattis, but it, too, was anonymously sourced.

James Mattis isn’t the only person  that Bob Woodward wrote about- he also took aim at White House Chief of Staff John Kelly (also a Marine General) by saying that he called Trump an “idiot.”  Kelly denies the report.

“The idea I ever called the president an idiot is not true…it’s another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administration’s many successes.” John Kelly

The MSM is constantly attempting to drive wedges between Cabinet members and the President. Their goal is clear: make Trump look as bad as possible.
